GIS
Our Mission
The Hall County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Dept. originated in 1992 with the County Surveyor serving as GIS Coordinator. In 1997 GIS was formalized as an office within the County Public Works Dept. In 2001, GIS was approved as a County Department and answers directly to the County Board of Commissioners.
The GIS Dept. is responsible for the ongoing process of creating, maintaining and managing Hall County's digital land information database, which is a portion of a greater cooperative County/City GIS database. A GIS database is made up of scores of graphic layers containing both objects ("entities") to represent real-world features and descriptive tabular information ("attributes") about those objects. When properly aligned ("georeferenced") in a common coordinate system and map projection, these multiple data layers provide the backbone for a powerful and flexible decision making and support tool.
