Do you have a Hall County traffic citation? You have these options:
- Contest the citation. Personally appear in the Hall County Court
- on the date and time given on your citation and invoke your right to trial. See the rights you have as an accused person.
- Pay the citation by waiver. Pay the fines and costs no later than your court date without appearing in court. This can be done online. Waiver fines are set by the Nebraska Supreme Court for those who wish simply to pay their ticket without going to court over it. For more information, view the Nebraska Supreme Court Waiver Fine List.
- Inquire about the STOP class. The Safety Training Option Program (STOP) class is offered by the Nebraska Safety Center to individuals who have been ticketed for committing a minor traffic violation. By completing the 4-hour class in-person or on-line successfully, the violator pays no fine, has no court appearance, has no points assessed on their driving record, and can improve their driving skills.

A strong, stable, and fast Internet connection is required to take exams/quizzes with proctoring. The following items should be considered before taking your first exam:
- High-speed Internet– The minimum speeds necessary for testing are 2 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload speed. Please note that some DSL and Satellite Internet providers may not be able to reach these speeds. Both upload and download speeds are required to properly use the proctoring systems.
- Internet Speed Test– If you are unsure of your Internet speed, please be sure to use one of the following to test your Internet speed on the computer you will be using to take your proctored exam.
- Wired Internet– The preferred method to connect to the Internet for proctoring is by a wired connection. Your Wi-Fi router will have at least one port on the back that will allow you to connect an Ethernet cable. You may then plug that cable into your computer.
- Ethernet Dongle– If your computer does not have an Ethernet port, you can purchase an Ethernet dongle that will connect to USB. To purchase one, either talk with a salesperson at a computer store, or go to any online shopping site (Amazon, Walmart, Newegg, etc.) and search for Ethernet dongle. This will allow you to run wired Internet to your computer.
- Wi-Fi Considerations– If you are using Wi-Fi (not using wired Internet), you should ensure a good connection by taking your exam as close to the router as possible, keeping others off the Wi-Fi during your exam, and keeping other non-computer devices (microwaves, TVs, radios, etc.) off during your exam. Other devices can interfere with the speed and connection of your Wi-Fi.
- Use the Same Computer– Once you have set up and tested a computer, be sure to use the same computer for all of your exams. If needed, switching computers is fine, as long as you have taken care of all of the considerations with that computer as well. It is usually easier to stay with the same computer unless that computer is having technical issues and you need to switch.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- The STOP class must be completed BEFORE your court date. The completion form must be emailed to stop@unk.edu. Your citation will not be dismissed until it has been received.
- The STOP class is optional! The STOP class may cost more than paying your citation. You should consider the effect a ticket will have on your driving record and insurance costs when deciding whether to take the STOP class.
- You may complete the online STOP class in multiple sessions within the 21-day period of access. You do not have to complete the class in a 4-hour block of time.
- STOP class is taught in English via videos, PowerPoints, quizzes and a final exam. Knowledge check questions DO NOT count toward your final score and will always indicate the answer is incorrect. Your final score is based upon the four quizzes and the final exam. Once a question has been answered, you cannot return to change an answer.
- All questions/answers are taken from the information presented during the course or from the Nebraska Driver’s Manual.
